HPRU GI Annual Scientific Meeting Awards

On 1 and 2 March 2017 the NIHR HPRU in Gastrointestinal Infections (HPRU GI) held its annual annual scientific meeting at the Liverpool Medical Institution. Over 85 people attended the event and the conference was well received by all.

The conference focused on three key areas for GI 'Burden of Illness' , 'Surveillance Tools' and 'Outbreaks and Interventions' with keynote talks from Professor Anne Murcott, Professorial Research Associate,
SOAS Food Studies Centre, University of London on ‘"Good" reasons for "bad" behaviour: a sociological approach to food handling in the domestic kitchen', Professor Simon Capewell, Vice-President for Policy, UK Faculty of Public Health for Virus Research on ‘Working at the Public Health Science/Policy Interface: Lesson from Slavery, Rum and Tobacco?' and Professor Sarah O'Brien, Director of HPRU GI on 'Modernising diagnosis and surveillance of GI'.

Delegates joined in the discussions on twitter via the #hprugi2017.

Delegates were also given the opportunity to vote online for the ‘People’s Choice Award’ for best oral presentation. The winner was Post-doctoral Researcher  Lee Kellingray for his talk on ‘Combating Clostritidium difficile infection through the use of faecal microbiota transplantation.’

Members of the HPRU GI External Advisory Panel judged the best PhD oral presentation, with first and runner up prizes, and best poster presentation, with first and runner up prizes.
